A great find is what I’m constantly on the hunt for. One of a kind pieces that you won’t see more than two of, hand-crafted by someone who can see the past and the future at the same time, is what my heart is drawn to. Imagine my excitement when I met jewelry designer and owner of Handpicked Goods, Sara Hart. Her talent is taking vintage objects and turning them into exquisite works of art. From vintage shoe clips from the 1950’s to crystal clear chandelier drops, they all capture Sara’s eye. Her ability to see what was, what could be, and what is now in her statement necklaces, bracelets, and earrings is something worth sharing.
Sara’s natural eye for repurposing vintage objects has been in her DNA since she was a teen. Designing and creating didn’t become her full time job until about six years ago. She finds inspiration at flea markets, antique stores and anywhere that objects of the past are up for sale. Sara crafted the gold cuff and lariat necklace she’s wearing below.
Giving everything a second life. That’s Michellee Baker’s philosophy for her hand- sewn ‘Everywhere Pants.’ She picked up sewing in junior high and hasn’t stopped since. Michellee says she started with some of her parent’s old bed sheets because she loved their aesthetic. “Sheets are really easy to work with because their fabric is already softened, washed and worn so it won’t change much once you wear them,” says Baker. The Everywhere Pants are just that. Their bold and dainty prints are perfect for any occasion indoors or out. They are belted with a drawstring and fantastic colored ribbon.
I was immediately drawn to the pants on the left. They are so familiar because I think I had that same set of sheets as a child. I’m almost certain of it.
