Every Wednesday on my Nothing2Wear Facebook page, I bring you color combinations that I’ve put together in hopes that you will try them too. Today’s color pairing, black and midnight navy, is somewhat unconventional but I think it works.
To make it work more successfully though, the look must be offset with accessories in lighter hues.
This was a weekend look at the Farmer’s market and then out shopping. For some reason I really wanted to wear the sequin tank. I love wearing black any chance I get. Now, the tank is something I’d normally wear at night because of the way it twinkles and catches the night light but there’s nothing stopping it from coming out to play during the day. When getting dressed, the sequin tank is what I started with. The J. Crew trousers (last summer’s collection) is one of my favorite pair and that’s probably why I slipped these on. They are amazingly comfortable!
The rest was a matter of brightening up the two dark hues. Accessories play a huge part in polishing off any look. Knowing which ones to style, is the key. I needed to break up both dark colors so I chose a Gap animal print skinny belt, sand colored wedges and my fantastic T.J. Maxx ‘everywhere’ tote. This bag comes almost everywhere with me.
Style Tip: Just when you think you have enough style, take a chance and add a little more. My summer bouquet from the Farmer’s Market added the perfect color burst and tied in perfectly with my skinny belt, wedges, and stacked arm candy. They each added color pops and print texture to an otherwise dark summer ensemble.
